I have some jars kicking around since I was a teenager that I might just finally use and I was wondering if they go bad at all or lose some of their potency over time? They are completely sealed/never been opened and they are the amplified ones. Thanks!

Hi honey! Its a hard question as there's no real way to tell, but there's not much in them that should be able to 'go off' and certianly nothign that can damage the hair. Products like hair dye are regulated to have a shelf life of at least 12 months, but most last much longer. I have used really old dye before now and it worked fine. Often what happens, is that the dye seperates so make sure to shake them really well before opening, then stir when you open them. If it smells or looks really funky, don't use it! As usual do a strand test, some dyes loose their potency over time. I think we all have a couple of pots of dye in the cupboard that are years old.

I've used my really old Manic Panic before with no problems. But follow what Mkatsi said! She knows ALL.

I know SFX Limelight turns into this bluey aqua colour after a while. So yes, they do "go bad", and change colour. The first thing you'll notice is the smell. Often, these dyes start to smell paint-like. It's usually the first sign of deteriorating product. Anyway, do a strand test to make sure the colour is still the same (you can use scrap weft, if you have it lying around). Oxidisation affects the colour.
