Hey mods I think what could be wicked is a topic for the history of alternative hair extensions (synth, wool, crin, etc etc). Like how they started, earliest makers/artists, the growth and changes in the art form, changing tastes and fashions, history of methods/techniques, how each style and type played a part in different subcultures (cybergoth, festivals, etc), the surge in popularity over the years, and whatever else. Just something about the history and culture I suppose. Is this something you think people would be interested in? Is it possible? Or would it be better on Emily's VSB site? Thanks

Mmm, interesting! I'm not sure how to go about researching the alt extension world, but history on dreadlocks in general could certainly be done. I will take this into consideration and try to get together something on my site.

I could help with the alt extension research? But I thought it would be cool to get a thread going so that everyone can share their memories, that way it'd be easier to piece together and we have first-hand accounts of the scene, the creative process, etc etc. a good place to start would be: Who or what inspired you to get dreads? That way we start at the beginning of everyone's "journey" ?
The history of real dreads has been done so many times. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the other side of it. And how dreads translated to cybergoth culture etc.

Hmmm..I've been looking around online. There are many interesting articles about the history of dreads, mostly about real ones though. Each one differs slightly too, and alot seem to be leaning towards the "quasi-religious hippy clap trap" stuff. Maybe we could have a section in the forum with links to some of the best articles, the most informative and unbiased ones. Then have a thread where everyone can share their stories?
