Hey everyone, I'm Laylee. So good to see lots of old HEF crew on here, and lots of new faces to the dread world. Welcome everyone Looking forward to getting chatting and getting to know everyone a bit better, and of course seeing all your creative things
Myself? Dread-wise, I wanted dreads for 15 years before I finally got them. Ordered some natural crochet synths from Merry, got them installed by Gracey (Woolhairhabit) and haven't looked back. Only kicking myself for not having done this years ago! I've already met lots of great people through Facebook, mostly due to me making dread beads I suppose. And like Whitney said in her intro, wearing dreads and being part of this community has really helped my self-confidence too
Other interests. I love making jewellery for people. I'm interested in periods in history like medieval England, 19th-20th century england, and the Old West, and themes of death, vengeance, and outlaw culture. The jewellery I make is influenced by all that. I love reading about history and culture, and especially about how political and economic changes effect pop culture, especially music subcultures I love music and all the experiences associated with that (clubbing, free parties, etc) and love vinyl (used to mix but donated my decks to a youth club and haven't been able to afford to buy more since). My favourite book is Energy Flash by Simon Reynolds. So if any of you are into underground dance music I really recommend it
I don't work at the moment but am hoping to go back to bar work soon.
Not sure what else to say and don't want to bore you all. So that's me
Here's some links if you want to have a look at the type of things I make:
